PRP for Facial Rejuvenation
What is PRP therapy for Facial Rejuvenation?
PRP is a simple and minimally invasive medical procedure performed in the office.
Platelets are equipped with potent proteins called Growth Factors that when released will accelerate new tissue regeneration and healing. Platelets also contain stem cells that will attract additional stem cells to the repair site.
What can PRP help treat?
PRP is indicated as a natural approach to facial rejuvenation, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, promoting collagen production, improving tone, texture and boosting the overall quality of the skin. Scientific studies have also shown successful results in stimulating hair growth in men and women by stimulating dormant hair follicles to generate strong, thick, healthy hair.
This type of regenerative therapy has been around for more than 30 years and has been successfully applied in the fields of orthopedics, ophthalmology, oral maxillofacial procedures, in cases of burn victims, and in many other ways, showing the powerful impact of PRP on wound healing and tissue reconstruction.
Clinical studies have shown that patients reported great satisfaction with the outcome and the results of this innovative approach.
Are all PRP the same?
The answer is NO. It will depend on the specific kit and centrifuge the physician selects from the many available in the market. Different doctors use different protocols. This will influence the amount of platelets recovered from your blood sample and therefore the quality of the results.
What to expect the day of the procedure?
You will be at the office for approximately 2 hours, but you will have several breaks during the process.
The first step is obtaining your blood. Then your blood will be spun in a centrifuge, and finally, we will obtain a concentrated sample of your platelets in plasma that will be injected in the affected area or will be applied by Microneedling technique.
The procedure is done under topical anesthesia so you will be pain-free.
After the treatment is finished you will experience minimal to no downtime, and you will be able to resume all activities in 12-24 hours
What are the side effects of PRP therapy?
The fact that we use your own blood makes PRP a safe procedure with no risk of disease transmission and allergic reactions. You may notice mild to moderate redness and some tenderness in the treated area due to the injections that may take up to 48 hours to fade.
How long does it take to see the results?
PRP works overtime. Facial rejuvenation requires at least 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart depending on each individual’s characteristics and expectations, but you will see improvements in your skin’s texture and tone after the first treatment.
